Do you recognize this plant? This is a Ficus Benjamina grown as a bonsai instead of a standard houseplant or the full size tree you’ll find in many malls.
Best known as the Weeping Fig, I call it the Sulking Fig. It truly is easy to grow with only one less-than-endearing characteristic. Move it outside for the summer – it drops it’s leaves. Bring it back in for the winter – it drops it’s leaves. Move it across the room – it drops it’s leaves. Look at it sideways….you got it. LIke a spoiled kittle kid that’s otherwise happy to live on tv and Kraft dinner the Benjamini has one sulking style. Don’t worry, always check to be sure that you’ve don’t nothing to piss it off and then just wait for the leaves to come back.
If you’ve made no changes at all and it starts to drop leaves mid-season – check it over. Dig you forget to water?
